For a great loop incorporating The Caboolture - Wamuran Rail Trail, add in some interesting gravel trails through Beerburrum State Forest.
A 60km loop can easily be ridden on a gravel bike, or mountain bike that incorporates The Caboolture - Wamuran Rail Trail and the Glass House Mountains Conservation Park. The route is a mix of concrete bikeway, gravel access trails and country backroads.
The GPS route below includes a segment along busy Beerburrum Road to Elimbah, but this can be replaced by taking the gravel and paved Gympie Road, which will bring you back to the Showgrounds at Caboolture, without fighting with the 100km/h traffic.
About Beerburrum State Forest
Beerburum State Forest, located in Queensland, Australia, is a natural haven known for its diverse ecosystems and outdoor recreational opportunities. Covering approximately 8,000 hectares, the forest is characterized by its mix of eucalyptus woodlands, subtropical rainforest remnants, and open grasslands. It forms part of the larger Glass House Mountains region, renowned for its iconic volcanic peaks.
Within Beerburrum State Forest, visitors can explore a network of hiking trails that wind through lush forests and offer glimpses of native flora and fauna. The forest is also popular among mountain bikers, who traverse its challenging trails amidst a backdrop of scenic beauty. Birdwatchers frequent the area to spot a variety of avian species, while picnickers and campers enjoy the tranquil settings provided by designated recreational areas.
Frequented on weekends by 4x4 and motorcyling enthusiasts, Beerburrum State Forest still offers plenty of quite gravel access trails for cycling. Care should be taken when harvesting is taking place, as forestry machinery and logging trucks don't mix well with bikes. Thankfully the active areas are usually well signed and access is restricted.
