Rail trails follow disused railway corridors that are great for walking, cycling and horse riding. With so many great rail trails scattered around Australia, there is no better way to get off the beaten path and explore the wonderful towns and scenery this country has to offer.

Currently the longest rail trail in Australia, the 161 km Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT) follows the disused Brisbane Valley rail line that meanders along the scenic Brisbane Valley from Yarraman in the north, to Wulkuraka (near Ipswich) in the south.
The Caboolture to Wamuran Rail Trail is a great place for a weekend adventure or an afternoon walk or ride. The path is a great way to access many places in the Caboolture CBD and the township of Wamuran, passing through beautiful countryside.
Another gem in Victoria, this trail spans approximately 134 km from Tallarook to Mansfield, passing through historical towns, lush forests, and farmland. It offers a mix of gentle gradients and more challenging sections, making it suitable for both casual riders and seasoned cyclists.
The Kilkivan - Kingaroy Rail Trail uses part of the former Theebine to Nanango rail corridor. The distance between Kilkivan and Kingaroy is 88 km in total along the former railway corridor alignment.
When completed, Mary to Bay Rail Trail is a shared path for use by pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders and linking the Mary River with Hervey Bay predominantly utilising the old rail corridor from Colton to Urangan.​
This iconic rail trail stretches for around 116 km through Victoria's picturesque countryside, passing wineries, farmland, and charming towns like Beechworth and Bright. The trail offers a variety of landscapes and terrains suitable for cyclists of all levels.
This 49 km trail follows the former railway line from Bendigo to Heathcote in Victoria. It winds through scenic bushland, over historic bridges, and past old railway stations, offering cyclists a chance to immerse themselves in the region's history and natural beauty.
While not a traditional rail trail, this 35 km trail in the Clare Valley follows the route of the old railway line from Auburn to Clare and then on to Barinia. Cyclists can explore vineyards, cellar doors, and quaint towns while enjoying scenic views of the valley.
