Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Festival of Cycling

The inaugural BVRT Festival of Cycling is an event jointly run by Bicycle Queensland and Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Users Association Inc. If you're game you can tackle the whole 161km, or riders can opt for 75km and 44km distances.

The start line at Linville

This event, held on 5 June 2021 was a fully supported event that drew the interest of riders of all abilities. The ride starts the BVRT from the Wulkuraka end, meaning that it's somewhat arduous, so much so that even riders only committing to the 44km still had to tackle the climb from Linville to Yarraman, which equates to over 500m of elevation gain. Most of that occurs in the first 17km, between Linville and Benarkin.

Quite a few of the Rail Trail Adventures team joined in the BVRT Festival of Cycling, with most opting for the shorter, but still gruelling 44km from Linville to Yarraman.

Others decided to do a solo, unsupported ride, giving up the opportunity for a Blackbut Bakery pie, but giving them the freedom to choose when and where to start and finish.

We had riders of all abilities and all ages, from kids, through to seniors. These riders also brought with them all manner of bikes, from traditional 26" mountain bikes, to kids bikes, fatty bikes, e-bikes and even a couple of gravel bikes just for good measure.

The end result was a great day out, and a sea of orange shirts rolling along the BVRT. We certainly stand out in the crowd.
